Guacamole is one of those things you either like or dislike. I don’t know anybody that sits on the fence when it comes to this green appetizer made from avocados. Me, I love it. When I go to lunch with my girlies they order what they want and if it comes with guacamole, they get it on the side and give it to me. Makes my day.

Yes, I know avocados are high in calories and fat, but it’s the good kind of fat and I don’t have it all that often. When I make my own at home, I smash an avocado with a fork and pour in some medium heat salsa and I’m good to go. This day is about spicy guacamole, so I could add some cumin and a dash of hot sauce to enhance to the flavor.

I was recently at a family gathering where I watched my husband’s nephew peel and chunk six avocados into a bowl. Then he painstakingly chopped an onion, three tomatoes, and two green apples. He dug around in his sisters spice cupboard for I’m not sure what, added a sprinkle of this and that, then added a couple teaspoons of lemon juice. I have to admit, I wouldn’t have added the apples, but it was very tasty. I piled it high on a piece of toast and probably ate more than anybody else.

I love traveling to Florida or California where avocados are served with almost any dish. It’s probably true with any warm climate state, but I haven’t been there to know. Now that I think of it, it didn’t apply in New Orleans. Anyway, if you are one of the pro-guacamole people, I hope you can have a good size serving, spiced the way you want,  with the accompaniment of your choice. Enjoy!
