The bride stared at herself in the hotel room mirror, horrified. Her soon-to-be mother-in-law had insisted they go for a makeover. They had their hair painted with highlights and their faces painted to clown level, or so the bride felt as she never wore make-up. She and her fiancé were naturalists, working and playing in the wilderness.
The door flew open, her benefactress strode in and handed her make-up removal towelettes. “My insistence you look like me was wrong. I apologize; we have enough time to get you back to natural, how my son loves you.”
“Thank you. Mom.”
In response to Charli Mills June 27, 2019, prompt at Carrot Ranch Literary: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that involves paint. It can be fresh, peeling or in need of a coat. What is being painted and why? Go where the prompt leads!

🙂 I relate to this. I would’ve felt slathered all day!

I don’t wear make-up myself, but I do like my highlights.

I wear very very light makeup and would prefer not to. 🙂

This reminds me of the ‘Prom’ my mother insisted I attend.
I was not myself at all… But then my all my HS years for the most part can be forgotten.
I like how Mom saw the light. 🙂
I’ve got an entry in the wings for this post. I’ll hopefully have it up soon.

I belong to another fiction writing group and they would have wanted to know why the mother-in-law saw the light. I haven’t convinced them that flash doesn’t give all the details.

I no longer get the Hallmark Channel where all the romances end happy – like with MIL’s seeing the light. I remember one MIL was a Queen!
I think it is good to leave some wiggle imagination room 😉

sure is nice way to start a new family bond – ahhh – it is our response to things that maters and you showed that here- also – without judging you showed that some of us our naturalists and some wear the clownish makeup or maybe play the life game differently – or something like that –
also – there was a bit of suspense as it close to the wedding –
