I wake way too early
Age defies long sleeps
Morning light glows over the small frozen pond
Trees and weeds glistening
I see from my room
Memories of thick ice
I long for my youth
When healthy muscles gladly shoveled away
Creating smooth patches
Enticing skate blades
Swishing among others
Speed, spills and laughter
Hearing happy sounds that no longer exist
Alone to remember
Silent tears falling

My word, this is an emotional rollercoaster.
A beautiful piece, Sue.

I’m not well versed in the specific forms. This is fun because it’s a challenge. I do think the 11 syllables tend to turn into a sentence but that’s okay.

Writing is also a vehicle for grief. Go gently into your sorrow, move fluidly to where you morn. For memories of yester years can still raise a smile to sit with you your life long. Xx
