Healthy Green Leaves

So what is your opinion of Spinach? I happen to like it, in a salad, cooked with a little butter and vinegar on it, or when it is used in a dip. Thinking of artichoke-spinach dip I’m willing to bet that when someone came up with that idea the consumption of both vegetables increased. Humans are funny, they won’t eat something on its own, but when stirred into a dip with lots of salt it becomes desirable, especially when it’s hot and bubbly. Makes me smile just thinking about it. Big Temptation

Cheese Doodles, Cheese Puffs, Cheesies, whatever you call them, are one of my biggest temptations. I can walk through the snack isle at the grocery store and ignore most of the bags, but the cheese doodle bag has a power the others don’t. My Weakness

I’m a sucker for sticky buns, with lots of nuts, and the gooier the better. It’s one item I buy at the local bakery instead of making myself. Good Anytime

Do you know anyone that doesn’t like Pizza? I don’t think I do. It’s one of those foods that if you don’t like it the “normal” way with red sauce, pepperoni and cheese, you can change to white sauce and all veggies. You can get the crust thick or thin, you can add any topping you want, and in certain stores get the crust gluten-free. It’s a satisfying dish for everyone as long as your group can agree on which kind to order or make when there are a bunch of you. Continue reading “Good Anytime”

A Popcorn Repeat

A repeat from last year, as my sentiments have not changed.
 I love popcorn. Whenever my husband isn’t home for supper, that is what I usually have. I watch a movie I know he wouldn’t care for, and eat a big bowl of popcorn. It makes the evening all my own. The cat even has to have a piece to lick the salt off of.

Made From Milk

I was recently in a friend’s home and we got on the subject of milk. Her comment, with a bit of a snobbish air, was, “Milk is only for babies. No adult should drink it because of how it is digested.” I didn’t know the explanation of  “how” so didn’t argue. I did have a private chuckle when she informed me we were having pizza for lunch with a healthy fruit and yogurt salad. I thought, “Do you know what pizza cheese and yogurt are made from?” I’m still wondering why eating a milk food product is different from drinking the base item because I was afraid to ask. Maybe I’ll bring up the subject another time, in another way, to see if I can get an explanation, perhaps next summer when I invite her for a drive to get ice cream. A Healthy Snack

The National Day of Calendar tells me there are over 7,500 varieties of apples and over 7.5% of the world’s production comes from the USA. I have had the good fortune to live in two areas of the states that are known for apple growing; New York state and Washington state. There is nothing like driving past the orchards when the blossoms are out in the spring or when the trees are heavy with fruit. A bundt cake can be any cake baked in a Bundt pan, forming it into a distinctive ring shape.  The mold of the Bundt pan was originally inspired by the traditional European fruit cake known as Gugelhupf. Guacamole is one of those things you either like or dislike. I don’t know anybody that sits on the fence when it comes to this green appetizer made from avocados. Me, I love it. How We Met

Nachos have a special place in my husband’s and my history. They were what we ate the day we met. It was the last Wednesday in April, 2001. There were five of us, sitting on a bar patio because it was one of those springtime 80 degree days. Funny part of the experience, we all were eating the jalapenos. Outcome of the event, there have only been a handful of days since then that my husband and I have not at least spoken on the phone, if we weren’t together physically. It was a spicy hot beginning.
